15 Years of ETF Trading

Titel: Dr. Martin Reck, Deutsche Börse Cash Market

15 Years ago, trading of the first two ETFs on the indexes EURO STOXX 50 and Stoxx Europe 50 started at the Frankfurt Stock Exchange FWB. Since then the number of ETFs tradable in Deutsche Börse’s XTF segment has exceeded 1060 products, offering the largest ETF range in Europe. Average monthly turnover in ETFs today accounts for roughly EUR 16 billion, with an overall trading volume of EUR 135.7 billion last year. Dr. Martin Reck, Managing Director Cash Market at Deutsche Börse AG, explained during an interview with Börsen-Zeitung’s investor publication “rendite” why conditions for stock investments were rather unfavourable back in 2000, and why the decision to create a dedicated product segment for ETFs has proven right.
